Languages

Build a language for your world, from its first sounds to a full dictionary.

Claim your desk

The Languages tool builds a constructed language and keeps it living beside your story. Start with a few notes and a handful of words, or go all the way to a writing system, a sound inventory, grammar, and inflection tables. It is as simple or as deep as your world needs.

Generate words that fit the sounds you chose, translate a line against the words you have defined, and drop your coinages straight into your prose with a hover gloss. You can build the whole language inside the editor, without leaving your draft.

From first sounds to a living language

Stay shallow with a few notes, or go all the way down. Either way the engine does real work on your words.

Draw your script

Hand-draw each letter, compile it into a real font, and write in your own alphabet right inside the editor. It handles an alphabet, a syllabary, or an just the same.

Sounds, then words

Choose the consonants, vowels, and syllable shapes your language allows. The generator reads that and coins words that fit, so new words always sound like they belong.
