Having someone remember you is like eating an ice-cream sandwich on a warm summer day. It’s a kind of joy that is sticky and clings to you throughout your day. That is unless you do not wish to be remembered, then also like ice cream, that joy doesn’t last long. The latter case is how Steven felt as he walked into to Taquito Bella, his favorite fast food chain. A young messy haired cashier took one glance at and there was instant recognition. They shouted a little too loudly, “Welcome back! Four burrito heaven combos with extra cheese and a diet Dr. Pleb coming right up.” Everyone in the restaurant peeled their gaze away from their food to look over at Steven’s shrinking self confidence.
Within the crowd sat one of Steven's former high school classmates, Megan. Though when Steven last saw her, she was a completely different person. She hoped he wouldn't recognize her.
While Megan fiddled with her purse strap and ducked away from Steven to try to blend into the crowd, she needn't have worried, as his thoughts were firmly in the present.
Sometimes a chain wraps up before a closer arrives, and that’s okay. The ending is yours to imagine.
