Chapter Structure Planner

Plan a chapter in scenes and sequels before you draft it.

Start free

The Chapter Structure Planner lays a chapter out the way Dwight Swain taught it: scenes, where a character wants something and runs into trouble, and sequels, where they react and decide what to do next. Each beat sits on its own line, tinted by type, so you can see the shape of a chapter at a glance.

Start from a blank plan, a scene-and-sequel pair, or a three-act skeleton, then add beats, reorder them by dragging, switch a scene to a sequel, and jot a note on any of them. A summary reads the structure back as you type, flags a gap where the rhythm breaks, and gives you a rough length estimate. Link a plan to a piece and keep it beside the draft. It is part of Pro.
