Inverted Pyramid Analyzer

See whether your story front-loads what matters.

Claim your desk

The Inverted Pyramid Analyzer reads a news story the way an editor does, top down. It checks whether your lead carries the news, whether the five Ws are answered early, and whether each paragraph gives up a little less weight than the one before it, the shape a wire story is meant to have.

You get a structure score with a plain reading, Strong, Solid, or Developing, a check of the five Ws, badges for your lead sentence and its length, and a paragraph-by-paragraph read of where the density drifts. A short list of what to tighten points at the exact places to cut or move. Paste a draft or load a piece, and it reads it on the spot. It is part of Pro.

What it does

  • Scores how well the story front-loads its news, with a plain Strong or Developing read.
  • Checks that the lead carries the news and the five Ws are answered early.
  • Reads density paragraph by paragraph and flags where the weight drifts back up.
  • Lists what to tighten, and runs on pasted text, a saved piece, or your live draft.
