Solo mode

Solo mode hides the feed, the community links, and the message and notification icons, and your home becomes a workspace built around your own work.

XP and badges still count while you write. Solo mode only hides the celebration pop-ups; you see what you earned later.

Turning it on and off

If you chose to start solo when you set up your account, you are already in solo mode, and the globe button is how you leave it.

Use the globe button in the top navigation bar. A plain globe means solo mode is off. A globe with a lock means it is on. It is a toggle, so tap it again to come back to the full app.

Your choice follows you across devices. You can also flip it from Settings › What you see, in the Focus section.

What changes

When solo mode is on:

• The message and notification icons leave the nav bar.
• The menu drops Community, Competitions, Referrals, Shop, and Read, and keeps your writing surfaces: your profile, a new piece, Desk, Exercises, and Tools.
• The Desk hides its Community tab, and the Collections and Worlds sections hide their “Following” lists.
• Your home page swaps the social feed for your own workspace.

Nothing is deleted or unpublished. Turn solo mode off and every social surface returns exactly as it was.

Your home workspace

The solo home is split into two columns. On a phone, they are the Focus and Work tabs.

On the left is where you start a session:

• What I’m working on. A list. One line per thing, ticked off as you go. Type the thing and press Enter.
• Start a session. A small carousel with two ways in. “Start from a prompt” lets you pick a kind of prompt (a scenario, an opening line, a character pair, and more), then drops a random one into a new piece with it open beside you. “Writing sprint” sets a length and an optional word goal, then runs a timed sprint in the editor. A finished sprint counts toward your streak.
• Quick capture. A fast inbox for stray ideas. Jot a line, then turn any idea into a draft.

On the right is your work:

• Pick up where you left off. Your most recent drafts as resume cards.
• Your streak and this week’s count.
• Recent work. A log of what you have done lately: pieces published, drafts started, exercises completed, tools used. Each row links back to the work, and repeats are folded together.

Your lists

You can make more lists with New list. Open View all lists from either card, or go to /solo/lists.

A list is one line per thing, with a tick box on each. To use a list for notes instead, open its menu and choose Take the tick boxes off. Choose Put tick boxes on to bring them back. Your items stay as they are.

Choose Pin to home on the lists you want on your solo home; the rest wait on the lists page. An item can repeat daily or monthly, which unticks it for you when the day comes.

Messages and notifications

Solo mode does not turn off messages or notifications. People can still write to you, and your notifications still collect. You see them when you switch solo mode off.
