Teams
Teams and Studios
What a team is, how a Team and a Studio differ, how to try one, and how to start one or bring a world into it.
A team is a shared workspace for people who write or publish together: a press, a writing group, a writers’ room, an agency, or co-writers on one story. The team has its own Desk, tasks, notes, files and site, and the work in it belongs to the team. Your own Desk stays yours, and you switch between the two from the switcher at the top of the page.
Team or Studio?
Both are the same workspace. A Studio is a team that has grown past the Team lines, with a few tools that larger teams need.
| Team | Studio | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it’s for | Up to five people earning under $100,000 a year. A group with no revenue can be any size | Bigger teams, or teams past $100,000 a year |
| What it costs | Nothing on top of each member’s own Pro. A team seat ($12 a month) gives a member Pro | $24 a seat a month or $240 a seat a year, at least two seats. Each seat includes that member’s Pro |
| Every team tool | Tasks, calendar, notes, files, shared pieces, a team site, inboxes, rounds, title records, clients and everything for your kind of team | All of it |
| Studio tools | The writers’ room production set (breakdown, schedule, call sheets, budget, shots), your own roles, the team’s activity log, the whole-team export, and 5 GB more storage per seat |
You can start as a Team and move to a Studio later from Team settings › Billing. Nothing moves or changes when you do; the Studio tools switch on.
Try one first
Your Pro trial includes one team to try, as a Team or a Studio: you pick when you start it. Nothing is charged for the trial team, and it keeps everything you make in it. The people you invite need Pro or a trial of their own.
When your trial ends, subscribe to Pro to keep the team going. Nothing in the team is deleted while you decide.
Start a team
Choose Start a team in the switcher at the top of the page (your picture), or on your Teams page. Pick the kind of team, give it a name, and invite people by @username or email. Each kind starts with the tasks, pages and templates that kind of work uses, and you can change all of them.
You can also start a team from a world. Open the world’s Team section and choose Start a team with this world or Start a Studio with this world. Already running a team? Choose it and Move into the team. The world, its entries and maps and your writing in it move together, and the people who worked on it with you are invited.
After a move, Inkbreaker asks whether anything else should come along: other worlds, collections or pieces. Pick what to bring, or skip it. An owner or admin can move anything back to their own Desk later.
Kinds of team
- Publisher: a submissions inbox, title records, contracts and schedules, proofs to the author, and a catalogue site
- Writing group: critique rounds with due dates, every critique side by side, and a compare when someone shares a revision
- Writers’ room: seasons and episodes, table reads, scripts in screenplay mode, and the production set in a Studio
- Agency: a clients page, submissions to editors with follow-ups, an editor list, and rights by territory and format
- Co-writing: a shared world, writing in the same document at once, and chapter claims
- Custom: build your own, starting with tasks, a calendar, notes, files and shared pieces
Add another kind’s features
A team keeps its kind’s own features and can add any other kind’s. The owner or an admin opens Team settings › Areas: each kind of team is a row that turns all its features on at once, and opening a row lets you pick them one at a time, so a writing group can add Table reads without the rest of a writers’ room. Added features show in everyone’s menu. Turning one off only hides it; nothing in it is deleted.
