Teams

The team inbox

Take submissions or queries through a form, read them as a team, reply, and move the ones you want toward an offer.

A publisher’s inbox is called Slush and an agency’s is called Queries. Both work the same way: writers send their work through your form, and your team reads it, replies and decides.

Open for submissions

Open Slush or Queries from the side menu and choose Open for submissions. In the form settings you can:

  • set the guidelines writers read before sending
  • choose a closing date, or leave it open until you switch it off
  • cap how many submissions it takes before it closes itself
  • say how many days of silence mean no, so writers know when to move on
  • choose the questions the form asks, in the form builder

Share the form’s link anywhere, or add it to your team’s site.

Reading as a team

Each submission arrives in New. Move it through the stages as it goes: Reading, Shortlist, Partial, Full manuscript, Offer or Declined. You can rename the stages or add your own.

Ask people to read it under Readers. Each reader votes yes, maybe or no, with a note, and can give it a grade. The inbox can ask for a number of reads before a submission moves past Reading, and can hide the writer’s name from readers so they read the work alone. If a read is overdue, the reader gets one reminder.

Replying

Choose Write a reply on a submission. The reply goes to the writer by email and shows on their status page. Keep the ones you send often as Saved replies; each fills in the writer’s name and title for you. To answer several at once, choose Select to reply, pick them, and send one reply to all of them.

Moving a submission to Partial, Full manuscript or Offer tells the writer, so they know to watch for your message.

When it’s a yes

From an offer, choose Start a title project (publisher) or Start a client project (agency). The project keeps a link back to the submission it came from, and later opens straight from it.

Submissions that came by email

Choose Add a submission (or Add a query) to add one that arrived elsewhere. Only the writer’s name, email and title are needed, and you can send them a receipt with their status link.
