Exquisite Corpse

How the Exquisite Corpse collaborative writing game works.

Exquisite Corpse is a collaborative writing game. Several writers build a single story, each writing a section without seeing the full text before it, only the last line of the previous contribution.

The result is something none of the contributors could have written alone.

How to play

From the home page or the Games section, open Exquisite Corpse. You can start a new story or join one already in progress.

When you join a story, you see only the last line the previous contributor wrote. Write your section: a scene, a paragraph, a moment. Submit it. The next contributor will see only your last line.

Story tags

Story tags set the tone and genre for the collaboration. A story tagged Horror draws contributors who want to write horror. A story tagged Slice of Life sets different expectations. Check the tags before you join.

Reading the full story

When a story is complete, the full text is revealed and published to the community feed. You can read how the contributions connected, or did not.

Every finished story is kept. Browse the whole collection from the story archive, linked at the bottom of the Exquisite Corpse page. Completed stories stay public even after a contributor leaves Inkbreaker, because the story belongs to everyone who wrote it. If a writer deletes their account, their section stays but their byline reads “Former writer”.

Exquisite Corpse is tagged Fiction and Storytelling in the skill system. Completing a contribution earns XP in those skills.
